Synopsis

Giving voices to the voiceless, triumphant and melancholic, four uniquely global characters with one all-knowing deity, manifest magic, discover their path. And you, can, too.

We meet Wōwō, our narrator, first. Wōwō is everyone and no one all at the same time. Always honest, always holding space, always sticking to the mission, the purpose. As usual, she speaks first in poetry and then in prose, speaking directly to the reader. We feel a fast pace and challenge from the start as she introduces the mission of our characters in a way that feels like we're watching a reel of disconnected film. Our story exists in no time or space. It's contemporary, but we see two character storylines placed in historical fiction timelines.

Our first protagonist is Liv from East Berlin when the wall was up. She has wide eyes and bites her nails, but we begin to see she is a product of her family and her environment. There's an underlying tension as she begins to question the world she lives in from the perspective she gathers from her dreams as she sleeps. Liv's mystical power is Precognition. As the reader sees her dreams, we also can understand what is coming next in the storyline. Our character's biggest shift happens when the Berlin Wall falls. We feel a tension with this character as she struggles to find herself, which inhibits her path and ultimately readiness to explore her strength and divine timing to meet the other three characters.

Our second protagonist is Sofíann. She wears dark colors, has simple style, and bangs. She is wealthy, and lives in SoHo New York with her parents. Her anger propels her life, and she is the first character Icarus appears to, and early on. Icarus is the embodied version of Wōwō, who visits and speaks directly to our protagonists. He usually comes with a challenge to wake up our characters from their thoughtless paths. We learn about the intricacies of race relations in America through Sofíann, a white woman. And in this way, we learn with her. Though she may feel problematic to many audiences, this is intentional. Deconstructing systems of oppression is complex and is often gone about in inappropriate ways by self proclaimed allies. We see the most growth from Sofíann and she manages to meet another character by the end of the book. Their power is unlocked, but not as strong as it will be with all four of them together. Sofíann's mystical power is Clairvoyance.

Our third protagonist is Saurabh. His stomach protrudes from the extra love and food his mom gives him as an only child. He smiles from ear to ear because he's grateful for his life in the mountains of Northern India. He lives for the spring when his family's mustard flowers fields are blooming bright and yellow. He falls into the arms of mother nature, and makes a wish. He has one wish - To one day be openly, accepted as bright, and loud, and gay. We see Saurabh's innocence and bliss stolen early on, and through him we meet the antagonist. The antagonist is The Shadow. He wears a sinister smile and hums a melancholic tune. His whiteless, pure black eyes penetrate your soul. He wears patchworked pants of inverted human skin. The rugged sewing details confirm they are handmade. He dances as smoke fills your eyes. His dirty, dark, matted hair sways left and right around his hips. Through the support of loved ones and recognizing his own strength, the mystical power of a Manifestor, Saurabh makes it to Mumbai and rewrites his story. There, he confronts the Shadow. The Shadow becomes more ferocious as our characters gather agency and momentum, acknowledging their truth, unlocking other realms and dimensions, setting themselves, and others, free.

Our final protagonist is Un-byol. He is the youngest of two siblings, in North Korea, during the leadership of the "Supreme Leader." His father tells him, "to be a man." And this stings him because it's the opposite of what he wants to be. Un-byol does not identify with his assigned gender, but with the lack of information in the Hermit Kingdom, he feels ostracized and alone. He is caught wearing his sister's dress, an absolute crime against the state, and this propels the storyline forward. His mother is killed, his sister disappears, he is put into kyohwaso, Kaechon concentration camp No.1 for reeducation to serve a fifteen year sentence for his transgressions against the people and the nation. Icarus visits him there and in this way, we see Bokyung's storyline and Liv's are in fact connected. Un-byol's storyline is the most fantastical as he needs the most divine intervention in order to find freedom. He is an Empath and an Aerona. His journey is heart wrenching, like any North Korean defector's, but full of hope.

Two characters meet in this book, while two indirectly affect one another's lives in a tremendous way. By the next book, all the characters will know more about who they are, will meet, and change the world together by exploring and altering historical fiction timelines.

Why support this book?

  • This is the first book of a series. The second book is currently being written, and the goal is to publish the second book no more than 1 year after the first.
  • Each reader receives both the novel and the standalone poetry book, which allows for a consumer double win, and can simultaneously appeal to both fiction and poetry book aficionados.
  • Access to a large network (>1,000) at Google for sales conversion. Book tour to drive pre-orders internally at Google through August. I will conduct instagram LIVE interviews on accounts with 2.5K, 12K, 16.4K followers respectively. Email campaigns to >500 people and website live already.
  • The story was written with the long term idea of television and/or movie screen adaptations. It should be translatable to a stage, given its narrator and character approach.
  • Studying Economics at Brown University, Career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs, and Product Marketing Manager at Google. As mentioned, I will utilize these massive networks for sales conversion.

Similar titles

  • The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera because we see the storyline from multiple viewpoints, and in this way, it shapes our point of view more clearly. The story is honest, and not optimistic. It speaks truth to life by showing the details of a post war country and the day to day ways these characters survive, and in this way, aligns well with my book. The book was published in 1984 by Gallimard‎.
  • Siddhartha by Herman Hesse because the book is focused on getting to know the main character as he gets to know himself and define himself. It's about the journey and personal discoveries along the way. My first book of the series is about exactly this - us getting to know the characters as they get to know themselves on many levels. The choices they make will either propel them or stagnant them towards their mission and growth. The book was published in 1922 by A New Directions Books.
  • Oh, the Places You Will Go! by Dr. Seuss because the poems are simple, so simple a child can understand. But so profound any adult can see their own path and decisions reflected back in this book. We begin to understand that good things, and bad things, and confusing things happen to everyone. You can end up in "bang ups and hang ups" or in "the waiting place." It's simplicity and truth set it apart. The book was published in 1990 by Penguin Random House LLC.

OUR APPROACH

We are a traditional publisher who covers production costs, never charging the author for a completed manuscript we accept, and we come with a team of professionals experienced in publishing.

We offer unconditionally:

- The pride of being traditionally published

- 40% royalties

- The production cost of a beautifully, polished digital and print book

- An initial, limited, but strategic marketing spend, marketing activity and advice

- An expert marketing plan for the author to implement to build a platform and further sales.

- Authors retain all subsidiary rights (including but not limited to: motion picture, print, audio, translation, etc. - we only take worldwide English language paperback and digital rights).

The standard term: is 40% royalty as you will retain all other rights, including subsidiary rights, to your novel including copyright. The term is always a 5-year renewable term. It automatically renews every 5 years unless you have not made $1,000 in royalties during that time - at which point, you may, within 30 days of the renewable term, terminate the agreement and all financial interest in your novel reverts back to you.

SOOP gives you personalized attention…

SOOP is a small virtual publishing company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, with a core team based in the US and additional contractors around the world. SOOP currently focuses on curating a small number of volumes for publication each year to enable its team to dedicate a great deal of time to working with its authors directly - not just on the manuscript, but also on platform-building and promotion. Anyone from a marketing manager to the CEO is a phone call away.

...but doesn’t compromise on quality.

While SOOP is a small company, we have a highly skilled production team. Our Director of Publications served as an art director at large New York publishing companies for over 25 years. Our Director of Editorial Services spent decades in fast paced news rooms where careful but timely editing was critical, and our Director of Premium Programs is himself an author and the founder of a small press. Our overseas contractors are carefully vetted and trained.

SOOP focuses on democratized marketing strategies…

SOOP was born after its founder Wade Fransson asked “what if.” Specifically, “what if the publishing industry was created today, with 21st century technology?” The answer? A focus on democratization both with regards to who gets published and to how SOOP would promote its books. SOOP focuses heavily on social media and online digital advertising, micro-targeting interested readers, ensuring that every dollar of marketing money is laser focused on finding an interested reader.

… yet still delivers bona fide successes.
SOOP may not have the massive marketing budgets of its big New York cousins, but it does have successful books. Its carefully planned and executed pre-order campaigns have delivered a string of #1 rated Hot New Releases on Amazon and has worked with an up-and-coming British politician to achieve a coveted #1 Amazon Mover and Shaker Rating.

1106 Design, LLC logo 1106 Design, LLC

Dear Author,

Congratulations on finishing your book!

The choices available to authors in today's publishing world can be overwhelming. It's often difficult to tell the difference between traditional publishers, hybrid publishers, subsidy publishers, and self-publishing companies.

From manuscript to market, 1106 Design provides book design, production, and publishing services for independent authors who seek all the quality of traditional publishing without forfeiting their rights and royalties in return.

1106 Design provides traditional publisher quality with one-stop, end-to-end services from manuscript to market. We operate just like a publisher with one difference: YOU maintain complete control of your book, your schedule, and most importantly, your payments.

In a typical publishing scenario, the publisher sets the retail price. When a book is sold, the publisher is paid first, keeps some of the money, and pays the author a small royalty. The publisher controls the entire transaction.

Under our model, distribution accounts are set up in your name. When a book is sold, the retailer takes a cut, the printing cost is deducted, and the balance is deposited directly into your bank account, never ours first. The difference can amount to several more dollars per book in net revenue to you.

Our most popular package for non-fiction books, 50,000 words and under, including copyediting, cover design, interior layout, proofreading, eBook formatting, and distribution set up in your name is just $7,353. Fiction titles are slightly lower, $6,488.

Need a different solution? Let's talk! We'll customize our services to your exact needs. Complete information can be found at https://1106design.com.

At 1106 Design, we love helping authors create great books! If all of the above interests you, please respond with your email address and/or telephone and we'll reach out to answer all your questions. We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Michele DeFilippo

    Hey Felicia,

I was at the morning discussion between Triston and you. And you seem wonderful! I connected so much to the discussion, and it has been a lovely start to the week! I'm sure your book is gonna be great, cant wait to read it!

Off to finding better ways to turn up in the world haha!

Cheers & best wishes to you,
    Anisha
